Father’s Day is just around the corner and that means one thing: I need to figure out some sort of tech gift my husband doesn’t have already. If you find yourself with a #TechSavvyBabyDaddy then you’ve come to the right place for gift ideas. I promise Nathan’s pretty much gotten himself all the tech stuff he could ever need, but somehow we still keep getting more.
I decided to come up with a diverse list for Father’s Day gift ideas, but it ended up kind of tech-heavy. It’s just what I know….or really know nothing about at all, let’s be honest. I’ll start with things I do know: Apple products.
I’ve had a pair of the Apple Earpods since Christmas and I’m obsessed. They fit my ears perfectly, they don’t ever feel like they’re going to fall out, and I haven’t lost them, so I consider all of this a win. They also stay charged forever. They’re right in line (price-wise) with similar quality wireless headphones and I think are worth every penny.
Apple TV is a big deal in our house. We use it daily. You can watch HBO, Showtime, Amazon Prime and Netflix on it, rent movies, and you can even download apps for the kids like PBS Kids and Disney (for them to stream) and even some games. You can even watch and DVR live TV (like via DirecTV Now) on this thing. We’ve had an Apple TV for over a decade (wow, old) and we upgrade every couple of years when a new one comes out. It basically does everything.
So this is definitely a splurge, but I feel like a new TV wins all the points, so here’s an option for that. Nathan says 4K matters, and I am not even sure I know what that means. I do know our TV is 4K, and so is our Apple TV, so I guess it all works together. Basically, it looks like we are actually in the Greatest Showman when we watch it, ha.
Nathan’s all about practical gifts so this Leatherman sidekick meets that requirement. He keeps this thing in his car and it does everything. Honestly, I don’t know what all it does but I know it cuts, has a screw driver thing, I mean I think it’ll file your nails? Who knows but it’s useful for sure.
I saw this thing (above) and knew it was right up my tech-y husband’s alley. It’s a smart sprinkler system — crazy. If I’m understanding this right, you can control your lawn sprinklers with your phone. I mean, to me, this seems like an investment since it let’s you save on those water bills. Plus, it’s another gadget for Nathan to play with.
A drone (Nathan calls these things “UAVs”). Do I need to even explain this? It’s basically a big kid remote control helicopter that can record video, takes pictures, etc. Nathan’s got one and he loves it. It actually has taken some amazing video and photos for us. I will admit, it’s pretty cool. These things can get CRAZY expensive but this one is pretty middle of the road and still does all the fun stuff!
We love to have music at the pool, lake, ocean, etc., so having a waterproof speaker is imperative. JBL’s version is great, isn’t too pricey and isn’t massive either. Speakers are a necessity for the summer so it’s a great gift idea for dads.
I’m getting super tech on you now. Here’s all the home things you could possibly have (kidding, there are millions but these are the ones I know a teeny bit about). We have Alexa, Echo, or whatever you want to call it (it’s the Amazon one) at our house. The kids can even tell it what to do (Nathan set it up to control the TV and our lights) and the Echo Dot is under $50. The next thing that Echo can do now is actually show you stuff. Want Alexa to show you a website? Just tell her and she will show you on Alexa Show. Crazy. We don’t have Google Home but Nathan said it needed to be on this list. I’m pretty sure it’s similar to the Echo where it does stuff for you, but don’t quote me on this. Again, not the tech person in the fam…clearly.
This one is pretty self explanatory, haha! The hubs loves a good cold beer and this thing will keep it fridgid for days it seems like. It’s under $30 and comes in a ton of colors.
Sticking with the “keeping things cold” theme is this Yeti Cooler. Our friends have one of these and it really does keep things super icy forever. I don’t understand the science behind this magic cooler, but it’s pretty amazing.
Whiskey stones are so weird to me but they work. I don’t drink whiskey, so I’m just going by what Nathan says, but he says they keep the whiskey cool without watering it down (and that’s a thing). All you do is keep them in the freezer, put them in the drink and voila. Cold rocks in your drink!
If you’ve got a husband that has an Apple Watch and and iPhone, a dock that can charge both is amazing. It takes up less space and it just looks cool. Plus, high technology + wood is fun.
Something else that I’ve done for Nathan gifts is experiences. We’ve been to The Porsche Experience Center in Atlanta (a track and obstacle course for fast cars). I’ve also done something through Xperience Days where he got to fly a helicopter over Long Beach, and we’ve done concert tickets too. It’s fun and different to be able to do an experience together instead of a tangible gift.
I hope you all have a great day celebrating the special men in your lives!
