I know you’ve probably read 5 million Nordstrom Anniversary sale posts by this point, I get it. I follow lots of bloggers and I’ve seen everyone posting about it. If you haven’t though, I’ll fill you in on what they Nordstrom Anniversary sale is and when it’s happening.
First things first: the Nordstrom Anniversary sale is when Nordstrom releases their fall/winter items for the upcoming season ON SALE before the season even starts. It’s like those “After Season Sales” but instead of after it’s before, which is amazing. You’re getting the newest, latest fashions before they’re even in style. Hello trendsetter. Basically if you see something you think you’ll want in October you should go ahead and buy it in July, it’ll be cheaper. The sale runs from July 12th-August 5th. Here’s the thing though, you can only shop early if you have a Nordstrom card. And if you’ve ever shopped this sale, you know that card is crucial for getting stuff before it sells out. Stuff always sells out. Sometimes it’ll restock, but a lot of the things I contemplated purchasing for even a day were gone when I pulled the trigger the next day.
Let’s talk about what’s on sale. I’ve shopped this sale a couple of years now, and I’m by no means an expert, but I do try to pick up a few staple things I know I’ll get a lot of use out of. First up, booties and boots. Last year I bought a pair of Vince Camuto heeled booties and I wear them all the time. I also got a casual pair of BP. booties last year that I also wear constantly. I’m going to be eyeing what’s on sale this year in the booties department.
Denim is a huge part of the anniversary sale every year and I’m sure this year will be no different. This is a great time to purchase a really nice pair of denim at a super discounted price. AG jeans are amazing, but they’re also amazingly expensive, so the price is much less painful to swallow during the anniversary sale. I’m also a huge Articles of Society fan when it comes to denim, and you can usually snag some of their styles for about $40 — amazing! Whatever your denim of choice is you’ll be sure to find some of them on sale and for great prices.
Sweaters is probably what I bought the most of last year. I love cozy cardigans in the fall and winter, and I purchased quite a few. I picked up a couple from BP. that were about $30 each and they’ve held up so well. They’re comfy, oversized and go with everything. I also picked up some great Free People options that are usually pretty pricey but they were great deals on sale. Another Free People sweater I picked up in a few colors is the cocoon cowl neck top. I’m hoping this goes on sale again because it’s the perfect transition piece for Fall. It’s light, comfy and is perfect with those designer jeans you picked up.
Another category that I didn’t take advantage of last year is beauty. I will for sure be stocking up on some beauty items this year. There are some great deals on Urban Decay palettes, Laura Mercier products and Marc Jacobs, just to name a few. If you’re a beauty gadget person, you can usually find great deals on things like Clarisonic face brushes, which I highly recommend. I’ve had mine for 3 years and I love that thing.
Jewelry is the last thing I usually buy during the sale and I try to stick to things like everyday earrings, bracelets and necklaces. I’ve never been a huge jewelry person, but it’s a great time to stock up on everyday pieces or even a new watch.
Designer handbags are another thing that always goes on sale, and it’s always a major googly eye category for me, but I’ve never bitten the bullet. I have a couple nice bags and maybe I can twist Nathan’s arm to let me get an early birthday present for myself. Nathan? I know you’re reading this, so just sayin’. (UPDATE: He said not a chance)
Honestly, I do love this sale but I’m not going to blow up your inboxes or Instagram feeds posting about it every 3 seconds. I will let you guys know what I love, what I plan on buying and what’s a good investment (in my opinion). I try to stick to staple pieces that I can wear with lots of things so I can get my moneys worth. I won’t be buying the trendiest handbag or shoes, but more power to you if that’s your thing! I’ll keep you guys updated on Thursday when it all begins!
